Lineage of the High Seat: The Children of Queen Macha

Liminal Paths series by Bargus MytheralThe Legends Reborn

From the jagged, sea-worn heights of the Great Headland, the children of Queen Macha enter a world governed by ancestral law and the rhythmic surge of the Atlantic reaches. In The Legends Reborn, the first volume of the Liminal Paths cycle, their journey transcends a simple coming-of-age; it is a mythic sequence where the royal house exists at the permanent threshold of the Otherworld.

The Heirs and the Wayward

The royal house is defined by the tension between duty and yearning.

  • Cathal and Eilidh: As the eldest, Cathal and his sister Eilidh are raised as the watchful heirs of the High Seat. Schooled in the intricate customs and deep lore of the Gaelic North, they represent the stability of the kingdom—anchors against the shifting tides of history.
  • Fionn: Spirited and restless, Fionn exists at the threshold of resentment. Deemed untrustworthy by the Queen, he often slips beyond the enclosure’s stone walls. In his pursuit of curiosity and forbidden paths, he echoes the wayward figures of ancient Celtic legend who find what was meant to remain hidden.
  • Ruadhán: Hinted at as a final stirring of life within the Queen, the youngest son represents a destiny yet to unfold – a hopeful spark destined to witness the sacred wars at Dunadd.

Artistry and Archetype

This reimagined world is presented through original, hand-painted digital artwork by Bargus Mytheral. Utilising traditional painting techniques in a digital medium, the visuals aim to capture the atmospheric ‘Gaelic North’ of the Scottish Highlands and Western Isles.

This lore explores the recurring folk patterns of Irish and British mythology – echoing the tragedy and transformation found in tales like the Children of Lir and Childe Rowland. Moving through silence, omen and consequence, it serves as an evocative entry point into a realm of forgotten queens, sacred inheritance and the liminal spaces where the land remembers what history has forgotten.
