The Unseen Haunting the Rock Base
The Legends Reborn
At the foot of Great Headland’s rugged cliffs lies a mythic shore veiled in Atlantic mists. The liminal strand is dwelt by birds, seals and other beings who do not wholly belong to either the rock-bound land or the ever-shifting waters.
In certain tellings such beings are drawn to the shore, yet not always by their own will. There are those who would hold them there, against their longing for the sea.
One morning Prince Fionn fled the dreary stronghold, tracing the well-worn fissures down towards the cliff base. As before he saw seals basking in the pale light and heard the distant cries of gulls from the Mystic Isle.
Then he saw her.
Upon the edge of an outcrop stood a figure unlike the others – a young woman, yet bearing the skin of a seal. For a moment he doubted his sight.
As he stepped forwards, a fragment of stone broke loose beneath his foot and struck the water below. At once she slipped into the dark sea, her companions following after. Something was left behind upon the rock – a small, glimmering thing, as though by chance, yet seldom so.
Macha holds the land and Nicneven moves in shadow. But along the meeting of rock and water other presences remain, bound to the tides, and to what they may not wholly leave behind.
