The Fíli: Prophetess and Bard of the Royal House
The Legends Reborn
Within the grounds of the stronghold perched upon a sea-worn headland, the fíli played her harp, weaving the tales of her kindred into the flames of the high feast where the shadow realm wavered through their visions.
In The Legends Reborn, the fíli is the keeper of the old ways, passing the lore of the aos sídhe – the selkie, the white stag, and their otherworldly kin – down to the children of Queen Macha. Her robes, dyed the deep crimson of the early purple orchid, signal the retreat of the winter frost and the initiation of a new mythic cycle.
During the royal journey towards Dunadd, she strikes the strings of her clàrsach to recount the tragedy of the Children of Lir for the royals she attends. As the vessel sails, her gaze is fixed upon the Sea of Moyle, where legend says Lir’s three sons and one daughter persevered under a bitter curse for three hundred years.
The story goes even a seer cannot escape the dangers of the deep. In the unfolding story, she is targeted by an oilliphéist – an enormous and formidable serpent from the furthest reaches of Dál Riata. Caught in the creature's path, she follows a fate echoing the classic tales of the piper and the serpent.
